Something For Your Spirit
Elder Thomas W. Burgess

Was Blind But Now I See
Acts 16:14-15 KJV
And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. 15...And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
Do you remember where you were when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? I was 9 years old and had been thinking about joining the church (Progressive Baptist Church in Chicago, IL) for some time. Many in the church asked my mom and dad when is little Tommy going to join the church. My mom said, leave him alone; he will when he is ready. Revival was going on at church, when I walked into the sanctuary, went down to the (what was call the mourners bench) 1st row to join the church.
Our Pastor (Rev. T. E. Brown) opened the doors to the church (inviting those ready to join)...looked at me and said come on Tommy ... I can see it in your eyes. I got up and shook his hand to become a member. After that, it was getting baptized becoming a Christian...becoming Christ like.
A guy named Saul was a persecutor of Christians (those who were Christ like) when he enters the biblical dialogue in Acts 8:3 ... doing his part to insult and drag believers before judges to be condemned and sent to prison for daring to believe and becoming a Christian. One day he is knocked off his horse and blinded when he hears the voice of one greater than him, changing his life forever and having his name changed from Saul the persecutor to Paul who is now a Christian (Christ like), an Apostle and writer of most of the New Testament Books.
The world is Satan's domain; his objective is to keep us blinded from the truth, not hearsay...but GODS TRUTH. He is content to keep us from reading GODS Book because he knows GODS Word enables us to see for ourselves. If you can't see it because you are blind, hearing GODS WORD has the same effect as reading. The proof of that is when we hear The WORD or a song that touches your Spirit and tears start to fall from our eyes.
Paul heard the Word and his life changed, you and I heard God's Word preached and changed our lives becoming a Christian (Christ like) and we are changed because we once were lost but now are found we were blind but now we see.
The 16th chapter of Acts tells us about Lydia and describes her as one who works, a salesperson in a city and worshipped GOD because she heard Paul and Timotheus preaching The Word and Jesus opened her heart to receive Him. Verse 15... And when Lydia got baptized (and her house) she tells Paul and Timotheus to come stay at her house.
What opens peoples eyes? The Word of GOD...What changes peoples lives forever? The Word of GOD...What gives people hope for a better life? The WORD of GOD...What are you and I supposed to do when we become Christ Like?
Give people The Word of GOD. The old hymn is called "Amazing Grace" and says Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see.
Thank You Lord for Your Word.
