1ST Kings 17:2-4 KJV
And the word of the Lord came unto him saying. 3..Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 4...And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook: and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
This is one of my favorite passages and stories in the Bible because it shows how loving GOD is and how HE will protect and provide for those who are in HIS service. Elijah The Tishbite is one of the greatest and most powerful prophets in the Old Testament who had no fear of one of the worst kings named Ahab.
Verse 2...And the word of the Lord came unto him (Elijah) saying Verse 3...Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 4... And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook: and I have commanded the ravens t feed thee there. 5...So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
Look at how specific GOD is with Elijah and HIS commands to him. 1...Turn eastward...2...Hide by the brook Cherith and 3...Ravens will feed you. How many will be honest enough to say if it was you, number 1 and 2 would be ok with you but Ravens bringing you food is what you would have trouble with.
The better and realistic truth from you would be "YES Lord" because with HIM nothing will be impossible and thru HIM you can do "all things". Verse 5... So he (Elijah) went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 6... And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening and he drank of the brook.
What is so fascinating in this story to me is you would expect the man of GOD to be obedient to what GOD said to him but this could very well be the first time GOD talked to birds and they did exactly what He said. I am not making light of the magnificence of GOD ordering his creation to do what He commanded because Genesis 1 tells us what GOD said and everything He said became exactly what He said. Our GOD is truly amazing.
Verse 7...And it came to pass after a while. that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. So the question now is what about the rain? Answer Verse 1...And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, "As the LORD GOD of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word". Elijah said it and GOD backed what he said...and it was so. Glory To GOD.
Verse 8...And the word of the Lord came unto him (Elijah) saying...Verse 9... Arise, get thee to Zerephath which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
I am ending my part of this right here so you can finish and be encouraged in your walk with Him. Allow HIM to be HIM, you be you and watch how what He has assigned to you will leave you speechless...and you will accomplish it. All you will have to do is Trust And Obey.
Thank You Father For Your Word...
