Something For Your Spirit
Elder Thomas W. Burgess
This is one of my favorite passages in all of the Bible because as the title states "Trust And Obey" in this story is about a prophet giving GOD all of his obedience. Not some but all. God tells Elijah (one of the greatest and most powerful prophets in the Old testament) to A...change his direction from where he was going...B...hide...and C...drink water from the brook called Cherith. What Elijah gets in return for his obedience to God is a place to hide from potential dangers, water so he does not get dehydrated
and a daily meal delivered to him by Ravens.
Verse 5...So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 6...And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening, and he drank of the brook. How many know there are tremendous benefits by being obedient to our heavenly Father and you don't have to be one who is all that and the bag of chips. You simply have to be obedient...GOD does the rest.
God commanded Ravens (plural) not the same one delivering his meal. GOD has an assignment for Elijah and used a specific type bird. These are the benefits for you and I to understand, you simply have to be obedient to His calling and what He wants you to do. He will take care of the everything else.
Verse 7...And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. The reason there was no rain in the land is because of verse 1in this chapter...And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, "As the Lord GOD of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew or rain these years, but according to my word. Elijah spoke about dew and rain and it was just as he stated. How many know...When you are in GODS service things happen for you that leaves people speechless?
Verse 8...And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying. Verse 9...Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain you. Notice, GOD spoke, Elijah obeyed and miracles happened not just for him but for those GOD called.
As you continue continue to read chapter 17, you will see what GOD did for Elijah and those around him for GODS will to be completed. It happened to every person in the Bible that allowed themselves to be used and can happen for you too. How? Simply Trust And Obey GOD when He speaks to you, He will take care of the rest.
Thank You Father For Your Word
