Something For Your Spirit
Elder Thomas W. Burgess
God Satisfies The Troubled Soul
Psalm 107:1-9 KJV
O Give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 2...Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; 3...And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. 4...They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way, they found no city to dwell in. 5...Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6...Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. 7...And led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 8...Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men. 9...For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
The song lyric say's "I've been redeemed, bought with a price Jesus has changed my whole life. If anybody asks you, just who I am. Tell them I have been redeemed". Who remembers or is willing to admit being so lost in Satan's vices that the question most asked about you was "You mean he or she is still alive?...I remember when he or she drank liquor or smoked weed or snorted coke or lied or cheated or whatever it was had reached the point there was no more worthiness in them.
Thank Goodness God does not view us the way we do each other. In spite of being raised in the Church or what position was held in the Church, there were issues that consumed every facet of our life. It wasn't that the effort to get out of what we were in was not there but when Satan get's hold of you with his vice like grip...getting out isn't as easy as we thought. The more we tried getting out the deeper we were in his grip.
Verse 4 describes how every attempt to escape his grip was made time after time, but there was no way out and seemingly no one to help us as we wandered in the wilderness. We would hear the Word of God preached or or witnessed by someone who had been there and done that and managed to get out but Satan's grip was too tight. Verse 5...Describes how hungry and thirsty they are. Their soul fainted in them.
Psalm 107:6 KJV...Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. 7...And led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. This is where everyone who has made it out of Satan's grip can witness to those who need that Word, help is on the way. God has heard your prayers. 8...Oh that men would Praise the Lord for His Goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men. Verse 9...For he satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.
In the New Testament, then we heard that still small voice saying "come unto me all ye that labour and are are heavy laden, and I will give you rest". Matthew 11:28 -30 KJV...He tells us in verse 29...to Take His yoke upon us and learn of Him; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30..For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. His name is Jesus and He provides Rest For The Weary.
I used this example before and it is quite appropriate with this Word. I remember going with my mother to the grocery store and receiving what were called S&H Green Stamps. The stamps were glued inside the redemption book and when you had enough stamps in the book you could go the the redemption center and turn the stamps in for an item you needed for your home or apartment.
What was fascinating to me was seeing stamps all over the floor of the grocery store, on the bottom of peoples shoes in all kinds of conditions. But the redemption store didn't care about the condition of the stamps, they just wanted them back because they had value.
That is how Jesus and true Pastor's see us. We need to be redeemed from the life of failure, not even just getting by. Then "The Word" is preached and touches our spirit. That is Jesus through the Holy Spirit touching that special place in us called "Jesus Only" to start us on our way back to Him.
If you have not allowed Jesus into your heart, please do so. He will fix what is broken in your life, clean you up, give you a new heart that will be for Him and change your life forever. The lost need your witness to give them hope. He did it for you, He will do it for them.
Thank You Lord For Your Word.
