Psalm 91 "Abiding In The Shadow Of The Almighty"

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the ALMIGHTY....

Every Sunday morning during Sunday School, my post is at the greeters desk assisting ladies into the Church and meditating during a quiet time. The music that is playing seems to always include the song "The 91st Psalm" sung by The Tennessee Fourth Jurisdictional Choir of Church of God In Christ. It is a beautiful song with a angelic melody that will usher you into God's Presence.

The lyrics are from verse 1 at the top of this page and verse 2...I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust. My mind seems to always focus on God's Name "Most High" which we are introduced to in Genesis 14:18...And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was priest of the Most High God. 

This descriptive name "Most High" in Hebrew is pronounced El Yon pertaining to the heights, in the highest, supreme, elevated high in rank, exalted. It becomes a divine title when paired with one of the names of God, such as "EL ELYON" or "ELOHIM ELYON" God Most High. The New Teatament Gospel of Luke 2:14 states at Jesus birth "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace good will toward men. 

Abram introduces tithing during his encounter with Melchizedek, king of Salem by giving him 10 percent of all the spoils in the battle against Mesopotamia. Jesus ministry was after the order of Melchizedek the Most High. So when I hear these words in the song I have this tremendous feeling of safety and comfort because I dwell in that secret place of the Most High under the shadow of the Almighty.

Almighty (shad-dye) "All Powerful God" appears 50 times in the Old Testament and means "All Sufficient" eternally capable of being all that His people need. Who would not feel safe knowing my God Is All That because He truly Is.

So I will say of the Lord in verse 2...He is my refuge and my fortress: my God in Him will I trust. There is no need for me to believe in bosses because they are for the most part only concerned about getting everything they want from us and pay pennies on the dollar for it, there is no need for me to believe elected officials will do anything for me because I am not a concern to them BUT I am loved by My God, protected by my God, provided for by my God, my safety is assured by my God. 

My mother and father named me Thomas William Burgess, a name I am proud of but over my lifetime there could be some negative things associated with my name. There could be some negative things associated with everyone's name but there is one thing for certain that forever will be truth.

When I feel overwhelmed by the troubles of this world, my God will take me to His secret place. It is a place where nothing can harm me because it has His Powerful name attached to it. His name is Strong Tower, Shelter in the Storm, Everlasting Father, Wonderful, Counsellor The Mighty God, The Prince of Peace.

Look at the strong words of affirmation in verse 3 "Surely He shall deliver"...Verse 4 "He shall cover thee with His feathers"...Verse 5 "Thou shalt not be afraid" ...Verse 7 "A thousand shall fall at thy right hand" Verse 9 "Because thou hast made the Lord which is my refuge, even the Most High thy habitation" 

He is my Light in a dark place, my Healer when my body aches, in fact when you have been fighting the battles of life and you are battered, cut and scarred, we have the "Absolute Best Cut Man" in the ring with us. Reminding us as He takes care of the cuts "No weapon formed against us will prosper" ...For He shall give His angels charge over thee in all thy ways and remember I will be with you until the end of the world.

Our God is truly Awesome and His names prove it. His name is...

Adonai (Lord, Master)...

Yahweh (Lord, Jehovah)...

Jehovah Nissi (The Lord My Banner)...

Jehovah Raah (The Lord My Shepherd)...

Jehovah Rapha (The Lord That Heals)...

Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide)...

And He Is ABBA...Our Heavenly Father
