Holy Ghost Power
In history, Jesus has paid your and my debt (that we could never pay) by giving His life for ours on Calvary's cross. He has risen from the grave with "All Power" as He said He would and walked among the people for 40 days, His disciples have been trying their best to understand all that has happened and finally believe. Jesus patience with them is a model for you and I to follow as we carry truth to those who don't know Him.
We must be wise with our patience to win souls because the Bible tells us in Proverbs 11:30 KJV...The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he (or she) that winneth souls is wise. This passage does not refer winning to salvation but attracting others and imparting to them wisdom. The God and Jesus in us attracts the curious to us. The Gospel we then share does the conversion and just like with Jesus and the disciples, Jesus gives them and us "The Great Commission" found in Mark 16:15-16 KJV...Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16...He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
I think we can agree, the condition of our world dictates winning souls for God's kingdom shoud be priority one because we don't have a lot of time left before Jesus returns. As Jesus prepares the disciples for His departure He tell's then of the need for them having a special "Power" which is found in Luke 24:49 KJV...And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry (wait) ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Acts 1:5 KJV Jesus tells them For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Verse 7:... And he said unto to them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father hath put in his own power. 8...But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The reference to Jerusalem and Judea is where they are from so they will spread The Gospel to their familiar places but Samaria is where no one goes. Remember Jesus trip to Samarial where He met the woman at the well? Heathens reside there but they need saving just like other folks and because of Jesus going to Samaria and the woman's conversion, she told everyone in the city "I met a man" and countless numbers accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour. For you and I POWER from on high is what will be needed to win souls for Him in todays world and that is what The Holy Ghost provides.
Jesus tells the disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait for "The Promise" as He ascends to heaven. The total number of those going to the "upper room" in Jerusalem were about 150 men and women who were obedient to what Jesus told them, spending time praying, waiting for the fulfillment of the promise. "Pentecost" means 50th and is the 4th of annual feasts of the Jews (after Passover, Unleavened Bread, and the Firstfruits and came 50 days after First Fruits (which was a type of the resurrection of Christ). Pentecost was the Greek name for the Jewish Feast of Weeks. This Day Of Pentecost in Acts 2 marked the beginning of the Church.
Acts 2:1 KJV...And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2...And suddenly there came a sound of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3...And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4...And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. What was so profound about this event? Because of the feast going on, men from all over the known world were in Jerusalem for the celebration. The Holy Ghost enabled those endowed with this gift from above preached Christ to everyone who was visiting in that person's language. The disciples did not naturally speak these languages, it was the gift of The Holy Ghost that gave them the POWER to witness to every person.
As you continue to read Acts 2, you will find Peter explaining to everyone hearing their language spoken to them by these lowly disciples and unlearned people about Jesus Christ. The Old Testament reference for this event is found in the book of Joel 2:28-29 KJV when God say's...And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29...And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. Verse 32...And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.
Peter preached a sermon so POWERFUL 3,000 souls were saved. This and so much more happened because of the Power Of The Holy Ghost. The wonderful news for everyone today is you too can be filled with God's Precious Gift. How? Do what the disciples did, tarry (wait for it) pray for it, fast for it and have faith to believe. Souls are wating for you to share Christ with them.
Thank You Father for Your Word.
