Something For Your Spirit
Elder Thomas W. Burgess
With God's Grace & Mercy, we made it to a new year and I am thankful. Thankful that I did not fall into the pity trap because of what I thought were last years personal failures. The world will have you believing unless you reach this plateau, unless you eclipse this level of achievement...in the title of Stevie Wonder's song "You Haven't Done Nothing.
Now before you want to accuse me of hating...Stevie Wonder wrote this song in 1974 and as I am writing this, it isn't directed to any one individual. It dropped into my Spirit for this reason...if you are not careful, reaching for that level you feel you have to reach in order to be successful can be the trap door that causes you to hit the ground with nothing but dirt all over you.
Maybe God did not want you to achieve whatever it is you felt you had to attain because you would feel as the world does...I made it on my own.
Maybe he stopped you because He wanted to prove to you through and in Him is the fullness of joy and all you will ever need for His description of success.
What is His description of success? Who did you give an encouraging word to? When you had the opportunity to make a difference, standing for what you know is right did you do it? Have you spent time with Him in prayer and His Word and then listened to what He wanted to tell you? When He allowed you to see another day, did you tell Him Thank You? Did you find yourself having joy even though you missed a personal goal?
If you are feeling convicted, that is a good thing. Believe in the Word, have faith and trust God. When He whispers into your Spirit, I will do through you things that will leave those around you speechless...believe it. And when it happens, tell everyone it was not you, it was God and He will do for them what He did for you...if you let Him.
So I am filled with gratitude because He proves to me that He cares about me and you too. He loves me and you. He knows what is best for me and you too. He gently corrects me when I am filled with too much of me.
In the words of Job...Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. Proverbs 13:15 KJV
Thank You Lord For Your Word
