Joshua 24:15 As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:14 KJV...

There is a scene in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade that was to me very powerful. A decision has to be made regarding a cup Jesus supposedly drank from. Indiana Jones and his friends have gone through challenge after challenge to find this cup or Grail and when they finally reach the place where it supposedly is located there is a delimma.

There are many cups in this room. Most are made of Gold or some other precious metal. After all this cup represents The Lord Jesus Himself drinking from this cup at the Last Supper with His disciples.

Which one of these cups is it? Naturally because it is a movie a decision has to be made quickly. One of the bad guys grabs a cup made from Gold, dips it in water and drinks from it and dies a horrible death. A knight who has been in the room full of cups (Grail's) forever calmly says...he decided poorly.

Indiana Jones looks and finds a cup made of wood, dips it in the water, drinks, remains alive and the knight calmly says...you have chosen wisely. Indiana Jones then takes that cup, fills it again with water and pours it over a gunshot wound his father suffered and he is miraculously healed.

What is my point to this long dissertation? When it comes to choosing, God has always used the simple to confound the wise. The bad guy assumed a object of great price had to be what Jesus would have used. In reality however, it was an object a lowly carpenter would have made and used to drink from that was indeed what they had been searching for.

In the 24th chapter of Joshua, he (Joshua) gathers all the tribes of Israel together to reaffirm their commitment to God and His covenant. Joshua reminds them of all the things God did for them and their parents and one would think it would be a simple and easy choice.

It is the same with us. Pastors world wide preach from God's Word Sunday morning and conduct Bible Study during the week to remind us to choose by faith to believe what The Bible teaches because it is God's Truth...not man's. Things look good and are quite enticing to the eye and to our minds but have no eternal value for us.

When Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt, everyone over the age of 20 died in the wilderness because of their disobedience and lack of faith. Our saying in todays vernacular would be "those people got on God's last nerve" and paid a huge price for it. Joshua led the next generation into the Promised Land.

1st Corinthians 1:27 KJV...But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; .

Why do we choose to not obey God? Because we allow the issues of life to get in the way of our remembering what God does for us every day. God protects us from dangers seen and unseen, He provides for our every need in life, He is the one who gives us power to get wealth, He is the Master Healer when we become ill, God is our SOURCE, and He gave us His Son Jesus Christ and The Comforter, The Holy Ghost to lead and guide us everyday.

We are choosing to allow many things that don't matter to block us from what truly does matter. Our time on this earth is short compared to what God has prepared for us in eternity. Choose ye this day who you will serve...as for me and my house, we will serve The Lord.

Thank You Lord for Your Word
