Psalm 3:3...But thou O Lord, are a shield for me; my glory and the lifter up of mine head

One of my favorite people in the Bible (aside from Jesus) is David. He is first introduced to us as a ruddy kid (1st Samuel 16:12) when God told the prophet Samuel to go to Jesse's house because the replacement of King Saul would be found among Jesse's sons.

We all remember the story of David versus Goliath. The absolute confidence David had in God showed to everyone during his life and us as readers that no matter how large the obstacle is against us, our God shows Himself strong against any foe. We can defeat any enemy, not because of our weapons but because of our belief God.

David was fearless and courageous even as a young child because he dared to believe in God. He knew from his personal perspective that God was his all in all and even though his life was far from perfect, David knew if I tell God I am sorry, He will forgive me and still protect and cover him.

This 3rd Psalm is from David, notice his question in verse 1...Lord, how are they increased that trouble me? The numbers against him were growing, his nation was turning in rebellion against him. Verse 2..."many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God". When trouble comes in your life, it brings numbers with it and those numbers will be the haters, doubters and nay sayer's who believe God is in no way going to help you.

David makes this personal when he say's in verse 3...But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me (not the doubters, haters and nay sayer's)...me is personal, my glory (personal) and the lifter up of my head (personal). That trouble, sickness, financial problem. family issue, work delima could make you feel defeated and cause your head to be bowed in misery feeling hopeless. But because of your personal relationship with God, your True POWER is found when you have complete and total confidence in God.

The word shield is used a lot by David because the shield protects. Psalm 5:12...For thou, Lord wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. Psalm 28:7...The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusteth in him and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise Him.

Verse 4...I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. (5)...I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. (6)...I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

David prayed knowing God would hear him, then went to sleep and woke assured God would keep him safe...and He did. Many people of Israel joined in the rebellion against David BUT with God victory is not dependent on numbers. If the battle you are facing leaves you with no one But you and God...you have enough to win.

Verse 7...Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth (rendered powerless) of the ungodly. (8)...Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing us upon thy people.

God is our Shield, Comforter, Sustainer and Protector.

Thank You Lord for Your Word.
